Well, finally, I got around to making a separate installation of this board to test things before they go live on the main site. So now, I am looking for people to help do the testing. Anyone can volunteer, really. Anyone who likes to try new or improved things, maybe try and break them, give some ideas on some improvements, and things like that. If you're interested, send me a PM.

Soon after I arrived at Midwest Furfest (MFF) on Thursday night, the power went out at my apartment. Apparently, the server didn't automatically turn back on when power was restored. So, nothing could have been done til after I, or my roommate, returned home. And considering MFF is an awesome convention that is two hours away from where I live, going back home just to push a button wouldn't have been an option. (I'm not being sarcastic here. This would have taken upwards of 4 hours away from enjoying the con).


I thought wake on LAN would have worked, but apparently it does not. Regardless, I will be working on getting a UPS and possibly a network KVM, so this problem can be prevented in the future. (And possibly seeing about getting WOL to work.)


And speaking of the future, apparently, AT&T is being forced out of my apartment complex by Suite Solutions - the same assholes that forced Comcast out. So once again, we will be looking at other options. I'll keep you posted as I find out more....

In case anyone's wondering what happened, the main hard drive in the server burned out. So I had to put another hard drive in, reinstall the OS, and restore SQL database backups from yesterday. For those few who have sites hosted on this server, please contact me. I need to recreate your accounts. Your data is still safe, all that was lost is your ability to access it.


I'll have everything back in working order soon enough. This was not how I wanted to spend my Friday night....
